In Loving Memory of Michael Kearns

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend, longtime supporter, collaborator, and advocate, Michael Kearns, on October 6, 2026.

Michael was an acclaimed actor, writer, director, producer, teacher, and activist whose work touched countless lives. Throughout his remarkable career, he became known as one of the first openly gay actors in Hollywood and the first openly HIV-positive actor to publicly share his status while continuing to work in the entertainment industry

Beyond his artistic achievements, Michael dedicated his life to uplifting marginalized voices and using the arts as a vehicle for empowerment and social change.

Michael brought something truly unique and invaluable to his work at Housing Works: a deep understanding that the individuals we serve possess innate gifts as artists, writers, storytellers, and creators but are too often denied the resources, opportunities, and encouragement to fully realize those talents.
